AITA for telling my groupmate i wasn’t going to cover for him a third time and letting him fail the presentation

So this is from a few weeks ago and i’ve gotten mixed reactions from people i’ve told in person so i want outside opinions. I’m in my third year and we had a big group presentation worth a decent chunk of our grade.

Four people in the group, we’d been working on it for about three weeks. One guy, i’ll call him Matt, had missed both of our prep meetings, contributed basically one slide, and both times had a reason that sounded fine on the surface, once a family thing, once he said he wasn’t feeling well. I didn’t make a big deal of it because the presentation wasn’t until Friday and i figured he’d pull it together.

Wednesday night he messages the group chat saying he has a clash with another deadline and asks if we can tell the professor he’s sick so he can get a deferral and present separately later. The other two were kind of like, yeah sure, what’s the big deal. I said i wasn’t comfortable lying to the professor and that this was the third time the workload had shifted because of him. Matt messaged me privately and said i was being harsh and that he’d make it up to us. I said i wasn’t going to tell the professor he was sick when he wasn’t, but that what he told the professor himself was his own choice.

He didn’t show up Friday. The three of us presented without him and honestly it went fine. He ended up getting a zero for that component. He’s been pretty cold with me since and one of my other groupmates said i was a bit harsh. I don’t think i did anything wrong but i genuinely can’t tell if i was the asshole for not just going along with it.
