AITA I got kicked out of my fiances parents house for being disrespectful
My fiance has a younger sister and an older sister. Her younger sister is 14 and her older sister has a boyfriend who is 26 so it was them me and her parents all at the house.
They have this running joke about how the 14 year old is in love with her sisters boyfriend. They caught her spying on him while he played the guitar once and everyone thought it was hilarious. They were teasing her all night about it and I could tell she did not find this joke funny. But the whole family thought it was a hoot.
At one point her mom and sister were asking her “do you want to give him a kiss?? Do you wanna big big hug from him??” They started laughing uncontrollably but I saw this poor girls face go beet red and tears start to leak out of her eyes. I said come on guys enough she is clearly upset and it’s not that funny. Her young sister looked at me so grateful but her mom said it is funny she’s just being sensitive as usual.
I said it’s really not funny because it implies a romantic situation between a 26 and a 14 year old which is gross and also she was clearly miserable from their teasing.
My fiances dad jumped down my throat and said I was grandstanding and I needed to stop acting like I have some morale high ground. He told me it was time for me to go home because I was being disrespectful so I left.
When my fiance got home she was angry with me and said I had cast a shadow on the whole night. I told her I didn’t understand why they all thought it was so funny to make her sister cry. She said that her sister needed to toughen up just like she did at that age. She wants me to call them and apologise but I know what it’s like to be the butt of the joke in a family and I’m not gonna encourage that behavior.
So….is the joke funny? Am I the asshole who should apologize?
