AITA for telling my best friend her boyfriend is cheating on her?
please help!
I have a best friend who has a boyfriend. They’ve been together for about 7 years and I’ve been best friends with her for about 13.
I got a text from someone I didn’t know. They didn’t tell me who they were. They said how they always thought I was attractive and how they always wanted to have intimate relations with me in detail. They told me they couldn’t tell me who they were because they had a girlfriend, but wanted to see if there was a chance if I would respond and have sex with them.
I responded that I don’t know who they were and I would like to know. They told me they couldn’t just tell me who they were, but they knew who I was and they’re part of my social group. I asked who they were because I was getting really paranoid at the point. They said they can only tell me who they are if I provide my nudes. This happened in the span of 3 days. I sensed they were trying to break me down using control and time to get what they wanted.
They tried to extort 5 nudes from me to keep as blackmail in order to find out who the messenger was. His reasoning was, if his girlfriend finds out, he’ll just show the nudes in order to keep me quiet if I ever tell her. I tell him it’s ridiculous and I’ll never know who it is because I don’t send nudes. I delete these messages. I want it all to be done and never think about it again.
About a week goes by and I get an unknown phone call. I see the caller already texted me a very detailed text about how he’s horny and waiting for me to respond. I didn’t pick up. I waited until later and the texts keep coming about how his girlfriend doesn’t need to know and how one night stand could be possible. I try to respond only to figure out who it is. Finally during the night, he texts me to call him. We call and the voice on the other line is my best friend’s boyfriend. I knew his voice and hung up. I was disgusted with the phone call and had no words to say. I couldn’t say anything though I know who it was.
My question is, I want to tell my best friend. how do I tell her? Her boyfriend never used his name in the text messages and I only knew who he was because of the phone call. I don’t have actual proof, so there’s a chance she might not even believe me. do I tell her? or do I just let it be?
