Pert3- At his company party, my husband struck my shoulder and whispered, “Go home. She belongs beside me tonight.” His mistress stood nearby in a tight red gown, pretending not to hear. I adjusted my dress and said, “No. I think I’ll stay for the announcement.”

PART 3: The First Betrayal Uncovered

Julian stared at me as though the stage itself had collapsed beneath his feet. The confidence he had worn all evening disappeared, replaced by something I had never seen in him before.
Fear.
Not fear of losing me.
Fear of losing everything.
“You’re making a mistake,” he said loudly, forcing a laugh that fooled no one. “My wife is emotional. She doesn’t understand how corporate acquisitions work.”
Several executives exchanged uncomfortable glances.
Malcolm Reed didn’t even bother looking at Julian.
Instead, he nodded toward Aurelia’s general counsel.
“Continue.”
The attorney stepped beside me carrying a thick black binder.
“This evening was intended to celebrate Aurelia’s future,” she said calmly. “However, before Northstar’s acquisition officially takes effect, shareholders deserve complete transparency.”
Julian’s face drained even further.
He recognized the binder.
I did too.

Six weeks earlier, Northstar’s forensic accounting team had requested unrestricted access to Aurelia’s financial records as a condition of the acquisition.
Julian had signed every authorization himself.
He had been so certain he would soon become president that he never imagined anyone would actually read the documents.
The attorney opened the binder.
“During our review, we identified more than fourteen million dollars in vendor payments approved exclusively by Chief Strategy Officer Julian Vance.”
The ballroom erupted into whispers.
Julian immediately pointed toward the finance department.
“I don’t approve payments alone.”
“You approved these,” the attorney replied.
“Every single one.”
She projected the first document onto the massive screen behind us.
Julian’s electronic signature appeared beneath a consulting agreement worth 2.8 million dollars.
The consulting company occupied a tiny office suite that, according to public records, had been vacant for nearly three years.
Another document appeared.
Another approval.
Another shell company.
Then another.

Every contract carried Julian’s authorization.
Employees who had applauded him only minutes earlier now stared with open disbelief.
Someone near the front whispered,
“My department requested new servers for eight months because management said there wasn’t enough money.”
Another voice answered,
“And meanwhile fourteen million disappeared?”
Julian raised both hands.
“These were strategic partnerships.”
The forensic accountant finally spoke.
“No.”

“They were payment channels.”
He pressed a button.
A flowchart filled the screen.
Money left Aurelia.
Passed through three consulting companies.
Entered a private investment account.
Then arrived in a luxury property development corporation.
The final owner’s name appeared in bold letters.
Camilla Price.

A shocked gasp rolled across the ballroom.
Camilla stepped backward so quickly she nearly lost one of her heels.
“This has nothing to do with me,” she stammered.
“I didn’t even know those companies existed.”
The accountant calmly produced another page.
“We recovered incorporation records.”
He looked directly at her.
“You signed every one.”
Her expression shattered.

Julian suddenly grabbed the microphone.
“This is corporate sabotage!”
“You bought this company just to destroy me!”
I met his eyes.
“No, Julian.”
“I bought this company to save eight hundred innocent employees.”
I paused long enough for every person in the ballroom to hear the next sentence.
“You destroyed yourself.”
Silence.
Heavy.
Absolute.

Then Malcolm stepped back to the microphone.
“As of this moment, Mr. Julian Vance is suspended from all executive authority pending the completion of an independent investigation.”
Security immediately approached.
For the first time in his career, Julian wasn’t the man giving orders.
He was the man everyone was watching.
He looked desperately toward Camilla.
She wouldn’t even meet his eyes.
Instead, she quietly slipped off the diamond earrings I had recognized earlier and placed them on the nearest cocktail table before walking away without saying a word.
Julian watched her disappear into the crowd.

The mistress he had proudly displayed only twenty minutes earlier had abandoned him the moment the power shifted.
His entire world was beginning to collapse.
But I wasn’t finished.
Because the missing money wasn’t the real reason Northstar had investigated Aurelia.
It had only been the first thing we found.
Hidden inside Julian’s company laptop was something far worse.
And tomorrow morning, every member of Aurelia’s board would see it.

PART 4: The Laptop Nobody Was Supposed to Open

The ballroom remained frozen long after security escorted Julian away. Nobody rushed back to the buffet. Nobody returned to dancing. Eight hundred employees stood in complete silence, watching years of carefully crafted lies collapse in front of them.
I stepped away from the microphone.
Malcolm quietly joined me.
“Are you certain you want to do the next part tonight?”
I looked across the room toward Julian’s abandoned chair.
“No.”
“I want to do it before he has time to destroy more evidence.”
Malcolm nodded once.
Within minutes, the ballroom’s private conference suite was transformed into an emergency board meeting.
The directors.
Northstar’s legal team.

The forensic accountants.
Outside, employees waited in anxious groups, refreshing their phones as rumors spread through the hotel.
Inside, the atmosphere was even heavier.
A silver laptop sat in the center of the polished walnut table.
Julian’s company-issued computer.
“It was collected before security removed him,” Aurelia’s head of information security explained.
“He tried to delete several folders while standing in the ballroom.”
“Did he succeed?” I asked.
The IT director smiled slightly.
“He forgot something.”
“He approved next year’s cybersecurity budget.”
A few exhausted people laughed.
“He gave us enterprise backup protection.”
The technician connected the laptop to a projector.
The screen flickered to life.
Password protected.
He typed several commands.
Seconds later, the desktop appeared.
Julian had deleted nearly three thousand files.
None of them were actually gone.
The recovery software began restoring everything.
Folder after folder reappeared.
Contracts.
Emails.
Private chats.
Encrypted archives.
The progress bar reached one hundred percent.
Then everyone noticed one folder.
It had no name.
Only today’s date.
The forensic accountant frowned.
“Interesting.”
He opened it.
Inside were dozens of files created less than four hours earlier.
Someone had been preparing for tonight.
The first document appeared.
Its title immediately caught everyone’s attention.
Project Renewal.
Malcolm opened it.
The room grew silent.
It wasn’t a business proposal.
It was a restructuring plan.
Not for Aurelia.
For Northstar.
Specifically…
For me.
Page after page outlined how Julian intended to become president tonight, persuade me to merge Northstar into Aurelia, convince me to grant him executive authority, and then gradually remove every member of my leadership team over the next eighteen months.
Beside each executive’s name was a handwritten note.
“Loyal.”
“Replace.”
“Useful.”
“Obstacle.”
When my name appeared, nobody spoke.
Julian had written only one sentence.
Emotionally dependent. Easy to isolate after marriage counseling.
My fingers tightened around the edge of the table.
Even after everything…
He still believed I was simply another asset to control.
Malcolm slowly closed the document.
“I’ve negotiated hostile takeovers for thirty-five years.”
“I’ve never seen someone prepare a plan to acquire his own wife’s company without her knowledge.”
The attorney quietly added,
“This wasn’t ambition.”
“This was premeditated fraud.”
But the recovered folder wasn’t finished.
Another file waited beneath it.
This one was labeled simply:
Insurance.
The technician opened it.
A series of secretly recorded videos filled the screen.
Every recording featured Julian.
Sometimes with Camilla.
Sometimes alone.
Each clip was dated.
Organized.
Catalogued.
The first recording showed Julian laughing inside his office.
“If Audrey ever learns what Northstar is actually worth, she’ll become difficult.”
Camilla asked,
“What if she leaves?”
Julian shrugged.
“She won’t.”
“I’ve spent eight years convincing her she’s ordinary.”
Several directors looked away.
Nobody wanted to hear the rest.
But they did.
Video after video revealed the same pattern.
Mocking me.
Manipulating me.
Planning how to keep me financially dependent despite owning a fortune many times larger than Aurelia itself.
Then the final recording began.
Unlike the others, this one had been made only yesterday.
Julian sat across from Camilla inside his office.
He smiled confidently.
“Tomorrow night changes everything.”
Camilla raised her glass.
“To becoming president?”
Julian laughed.
“No.”
“To becoming the richest man in the room.”
Camilla looked confused.
“But Northstar isn’t for sale.”
Julian leaned closer.
“It doesn’t need to be.”
He smiled.
“Once Audrey signs the post-acquisition integration documents, she’ll never realize she also signed voting authority over her shares.”
The room exploded.
Several directors stood simultaneously.
“Impossible.”
“Those documents don’t exist.”
The general counsel immediately searched through the acquisition files.
Minutes later, she froze.
“There was…”
“A supplemental authorization packet.”
Everyone turned toward her.
“It was submitted yesterday.”
“I assumed it came from Northstar.”
She looked directly at me.
“It didn’t.”
The room fell silent.
Julian hadn’t simply planned to steal fourteen million dollars.
He had prepared to steal control of a multi-billion-dollar investment company using forged legal documents.
The fraud reached far beyond Aurelia.
This wasn’t just corporate misconduct anymore.
It was one of the largest attempted corporate thefts anyone in the room had ever seen.
Then the IT director quietly cleared his throat.
“I’m sorry…”
“I think there’s one more file.”
Everyone looked back toward the screen.
At the bottom of the recovered folder sat a single encrypted video.
Its timestamp read…
Scheduled to send automatically at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow.
No sender.
No recipient.
Only one chilling filename.
If Audrey Refuses.
