AITAH for telling my wifes friends boyfriend that she was planning to keep talking to another guy behind his back
This whole situation has made my home life and my wifes work life a nightmare so I need to know if I actually did the wrong thing here or if this woman is just mad she got caught.
About two weeks ago my wife had a couple friends over at our place. One of them who Ill call L had just gotten into a big fight with her boyfriend and came over to vent and get some space. My buddy was visiting from out of town and was there too.
L tells everyone shes done with her boyfriend. Says shes leaving him. My buddy whos a social guy and was a couple drinks in starts talking to her and they really hit it off. They exchange numbers and for the next several days theyre texting and facetiming constantly. My buddy is genuinely excited about this girl. Hes telling me he thinks theres something real there.
Then L texts my wife and says actually she cant leave her boyfriend because she doesnt want to hurt him. But she still wants to keep talking to my buddy behind her boyfriends back because she has feelings for him now. She literally spelled this out. Shes choosing to stay with her boyfriend while maintaining whatever this is with my friend on the side.
My wife told me because obviously my best friend is involved. I told my buddy and he was upset because he thought she was actually available and didnt sign up to be the other guy.
The next day I told my wife that her boyfriend deserves to know whats happening. She agreed. So I sent him a message with screenshots of what L had told my wife. I didnt sugarcoat it but I wasnt cruel about it either. I told him I was sorry and that we all thought she was leaving him when this started.
He took it well honestly. Thanked me said it wasnt my fault. Him and L talked it out and theyre still together.
But L is furious. At me specifically. She told my wife that Im a huge piece of shit and that none of it was my business. She said she never wants to be around me again and if my wife wants to hang out it cant include me. And now shes making my wifes life miserable at work. Talking about me constantly making snide comments creating a whole uncomfortable environment.
My wife is on my side completely but shes the one dealing with the daily fallout and I feel guilty about that. I keep going back and forth between knowing I did the right thing and wondering if I shouldve just stayed out of it.
But she literally told my wife her plan. She brought us into it. She flirted with my best friend in my living room. And now Im supposed to have just kept my mouth shut and let this guy get played? Nah.
