AITA for eating a garlic sandwich and stinking up the bedroom?

AITA for eating a garlic sandwich and stinking up the bedroom?

Earlier today, I was really hungry for a pre-bed snack, but there wasn’t much to eat in the house. My wife has been putting off going to the grocery store, but I hope she will go tomorrow. Anyway, I decided to toast a couple pieces of bread, saute a head of garlic in some olive oil and put some cheese on top. It was a very simple and surprisingly delicious meal.

When bedtime came, though, I could literally smell myself. The garlic odor was coming out of my pores. In addition to this, I was beginning to get a bit bloated, too. I didn’t think much of it, since I did eat cheese earlier and I have been mildly lactose intolerant for years. I decided to just take a shower and go to bed. I figured the smell would be temporary and would come off with gentle scrubbing and body wash, but boy was I wrong.

Fast forward to the middle of the night, and I woke up really hot and sweating. I went to open a window and I realized that the entire wet spot on the bed from my sweat stunk of garlic. Even worse, my stomach was extremely painful and felt like it was in knots. I returned to bed to try and sleep, but all I could do was toss and turn for about an hour due to my gastric upset. Naturally, this woke up my wife.

At first, I thought she would simply return to sleep, but then she started complaining about the smell and the fact that the bed was so wet. She also said that I needed to keep still. I told her that I had been hungry after dinner and made myself a garlic and mozzarella melt, which she said was an idiotic decision and something which I should have known would cause this to happen. I told her that she was being very unfair and that the only thing which may have caused an unpleasant side effect was the cheese.

Unfortunately, my pleas did not work, and I have now been banished to the uncomfortable futon in our living room, unable to sleep and feeling totally bullied by my wife. I don’t really know what she expected me to do. I made do with what little fresh ingredients we had, and the sandwich was delicious. The after-effects were something very few people could have predicted. I don’t feel like my position is being understood here, and I am wondering if I could have misinterpreted the situation. What are your opinions? AITA?
