I put a box of kids clothes for free on a local community page.
A woman responded pretty immediately and said she could pick them up that afternoon. When she didn’t show, I messaged her and she said she had a family emergency but would pick them up the next morning. Again, she didn’t show and again I messaged her.
She said she got busy and lost track of time but would be there that afternoon. Well, again she didn’t show and didn’t message. This time I did not message her either.
Instead I went to the next person who came and got the clothes that same day. Once the items were picked up, I updated the post to say they had been claimed and picked up.
Well the original lady messaged me, saying she was upset that I gave it to someone else without letting her know that I was going to choose someone else and didn’t give her a final chance to come get them.
I figured 3 strikes plus a complete lack of initiating communication each time she no-showed meant she wasn’t all that interested. Plus I wanted them gone, hence why they were free.
My friends think I should have sent her a message and one last opportunity before choosing someone else. But I think if she wanted them, she should have taken the initiative to let me know she wasn’t coming and when she could come to get them.
So was I the a**hole for not giving her a final chance or warning her if she didn’t pick up, id choose someone else?
