Am I wrong for filing a complaint about my son’s teacher?

I (34F) have a 10-year-old son who attends our local public school. My husband (35M) started a new job a year ago, so we moved from our city to a much smaller town. Since the move, we’ve had several issues with my son’s teacher.

I was initially excited because she seemed young and I thought she’d provide a modern, engaging education. I was quickly proven wrong. She refuses to let students use the school-provided Chromebooks, making them complete all assignments on paper and worksheets, which makes catching up on missed work inconvenient.

At the end of each day, the class does a 10-minute cleanup. While I understand the need, it seems she favors the girls, boys have to push in all the chairs and line up last for dismissal because “ladies first.” I don’t want my son to feel less than the girls because he’s never first.

There was also an incident where my son and another boy were talking during a lesson. I get that’s not allowed, but when he was pulled aside, she made him say “yes, ma’am” instead of a simple “okay.”

I took these concerns to the principal, who said he would look into it. My husband and some friends think I’m overreacting because “she’s just teaching them manners.” Am I wrong for taking my concerns to the principal?
