“My Son Got Into A Fight At School Because Another Boy Wouldn’t Stop Bullying His Little Sister — And I Have Never Been Prouder Of Him”

“Mr. Carter?” he said. “You know Mrs. Carter?”
Mark swallowed.
“She’s my wife.”
The room became completely silent.
I stared at him.
Then I looked at Stefan.
Then back at Mark.
My mind struggled to make sense of what I was seeing.
The woman stepped into the room.

She looked at Mark.
Then she looked at me.
And something changed in her expression.
Her eyes widened.
She whispered, “Oh my God.”
I could barely hear myself speak.

“Mark… what are you doing here?”
He didn’t answer.
Instead, he looked toward Stefan.
The boy was sitting perfectly still in the chair.

He wasn’t frightened anymore.
He was watching his father.
His father.
The words echoed inside my head.
I turned toward Stefan.
“Is that your father?”
Stefan nodded.

“Yes.”
My heart began pounding.
“What’s his name?”
The boy looked confused by the question.
“Mark.”
